Daems Van Remoortere is the jcollaborative practice of Lena Daems (°1988) and Frederik Van Remoortere (°1986). Operating at the intersection of visual art, performance, and spatial intervention, the duo develops an oeuvre that moves between autonomous sculptural work and multimedia installations in public space.
Their practice is rooted in a poetic exploration of natural phenomena as well as the patterns of human behavior that unfold in relation to them. Through large-scale, kinetic sculptures and precisely choreographed environments, Daems Van Remoortere render visible the invisible forces shaping our lives, often revealing a quiet tension between presence and absence.
Drawing on insights from physics, astronomy, and mathematics, their works resonate with a deep fascination for systems while subtly confronting viewers with the uncomfortable realities of our impact on the world and on ourselves. The public is often invited as co-actors whose movements and decisions influence the unfolding of the work.
