Art on Paper, Brussels (2021)

At the 2021 edition of Art on Paper, we brought together three artistic practices that engage with paper, each from a distinctly different background: Elke Andreas Boon, Kristof Van Heeschvelde, and Bilal Bahir. Elke Andreas Boon explores the poetic and symbolic potential of language through delicate, text-based drawings and installations, often rooted in personal or literary narratives. Kristof Van Heeschvelde creates layered compositions that fuse sharp social observation with art historical references, often incorporating irony and a playful sense of space. Bilal Bahir investigates themes of memory, displacement, and cultural identity through fragmented imagery and architectural motifs, informed by his upbringing in Iraq and life in diaspora.
Together, their works offered a reflection on paper not as a neutral support, but as a surface where personal and collective narratives are inscribed and reimagined.
